Clinical Nurse EducatorBasic FunctionPerform activities as a nursing care expert within the area of specialty. Directly works as an expert resource in a specific specialty, focusing on nursing policies, evidence based standards of care, staff education, clinical practice, quality improvement, patient outcomes and related interdisciplinary protocols. ScopeWorking within Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare Nursing department in Dhahran, Al Hasa, Ras Tanura, and Abqaiq. The Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) possesses the primary expertise to support nursing practice in the clinical area including promotion of practice based on best evidence and quality improvement. Areas of responsibility are related to the clinical care aspects of planning, organizing and delivering care. In addition, the CNE may assume coaching and consulting role for peers and participate in evaluating patient care within established practice standards. Makes nursing decisions relating to care based on clinical judgment, quality standards and patient safety outcomes. The CNE is considered a designated expert in their area of practice who facilitates provision of specialist clinical care to patients within their area during a 24-hour period. Is capable of providing Supervisor and Charge Nurse relief. Work hours are assigned to meet operational needs of the assigned area. Direction is through the Director of Clinical Practice, Education & Research Division. Principal ContactsDaily with clinical area personnel, nursing supervisor, senior supervisor or division chief, nursing shift coordinator, social workers, patient family members, physician chiefs of service, specialty physicians, attending ward physicians, and other JHAH personnel involved in care of the patient. Ongoing with departments responsible for concerns relating to or supportive of employees, patients and families, e.g. outreach education, healthcare campaigns, wellness program. Occasional public and community contact through conduct healthcare presentations to JHAH employees and managers plus non JHAH facilities and organizations, e.g. Ministry of Health. Provide input on the selection and evaluation of specialty specific consumables and equipmentContribute to the development and updating of evidenced based clinical policies, protocols, guidelines and educational materials in conjunction with a multi professional teamContribute to the development of audit tools and collect, analyze and report Quality Improvement data for unit based audits to ensure best practice benchmarks are metEvaluates the quality and effectiveness of provided educational tools and learning opportunitiesEDUCATION AND STAFF DEVELOPMENT Fosters a safe learning environment by acknowledging the principles of Adult Learning and incorporates different styles of education from informal, group learning and 1:1 sessionsMentor, coach and educate new and existing staff members and support nursing staff in their areas of expertise: e.g. Preceptors, champions for clinical practice changesContributes feedback on evaluation of staff performance and individual development plansConduct unit wide training and education on topics relevant to specialty practices to develop and advance professional clinical knowledge to ensure the best clinical outcomes for patientsSupports and assists staff to critically analyze events when faced with complex or challenging patient care situations engages staff in problem solving strategiesContribute to the assessment of training and educational needs of both the unit and individual staff membersFacilitate the completion and documentation of Mandatory and Unit Based Competencies and Point of Care TrainingDemonstrates the use of and encourages reflective practice to enable staff and to identify and prioritize self-developmentPromote local and regional educational opportunities appropriate to hospital and staff needsParticipate as a guest lecturer in Educational programs offered by the Office of Clinical AffairsEducationBachelor Degree in Nursing Experience7 years minimum clinical nursing experience following licensure/registration in the country of origin, to include 3 years clinical experience in specific specialty. Certifications/Other requirements as applicable. Current licensure as a professional registered nurse. . Advanced training/certification in specialty required. . Professional experience with demonstrated competency in clinical skills. . Fluent spoken and written English. Spoken Arabic desirable.
